Emerald Ash Borer: Protecting North Texas Ash Trees
Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an invasive wood-boring beetle devastating ash tree populations across North America. The metallic green beetle's larvae feed under the bark, disrupting the tree's ability to transport water and nutrients. Untreated infestations are nearly 100% fatal within 2-4 years.
Prevention Protocol: We administer systemic insecticide trunk injections that provide multi-year protection. These treatments are absorbed into the tree's vascular system, killing EAB larvae as they feed. Prevention is far more effective and economical than attempting to save heavily infested trees.
Treatment Candidates: Healthy ash trees within 15 miles of known EAB infestations should be treated preventively. Trees showing early signs (crown thinning, D-shaped exit holes, woodpecker activity) can still be saved with aggressive treatment.
Critical Spring Window
Emerald Ash Borer prevention injections should be completed by early spring before adult beetles emerge (typically late May). Treatments provide 2 years of protection.
Iron Chlorosis (Red Oak) Management
North Texas's alkaline soils (pH 7.5-8.5) lock up iron, causing yellowing foliage in pin oaks, red oaks, and ornamentals. Surface applications are largely ineffective.
Our trunk injection method delivers chelated iron directly to the tree's vascular system, bypassing soil chemistry issues. Results are visible within 2-3 weeks: deep green foliage and vigorous new growth.
